Electrical installations degrade. None of that is visible from the outside, which is exactly why the wiring regulations expect periodic inspection and testing rather than trusting an installation because it still switches on.

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is the formal record of that inspection. We examine the installation, carry out dead and live testing, and issue a report stating whether it is satisfactory for continued use. Every observation is coded: C1 where danger is present and immediate action is required, C2 where it is potentially dangerous and urgent remedial work is needed, C3 where improvement is recommended, and FI where further investigation is required. A report full of codes is not a failure of your building; it is the map you need in order to make it compliant, and we explain each one in plain English rather than leaving you to interpret schedules of test results.

Inspection intervals depend on the premises and how hard the installation works. Rented housing is generally inspected at least every five years or at change of tenancy; owner-occupied homes are commonly recommended every ten. Offices, shops and similar commercial premises typically sit on a five-year cycle, while industrial installations are usually three, with more frequent inspection of specific equipment where the environment is harsh. We confirm the correct interval for your installation at survey and record the recommended next inspection date, so your compliance calendar is set rather than guessed at.

Fixed wire testing is the same discipline applied at scale, across distribution boards, sub-mains and final circuits on a commercial or industrial site. Larger premises rarely tolerate a full shutdown, so testing is normally phased: a proportion of circuits per visit, sequenced around trading hours, shift patterns or production schedules until the whole installation is covered. Alongside it, portable appliance testing covers everything that plugs in, with an itemised asset register so you know precisely which items were tested, when, and what they passed on. Emergency lighting and fire alarm testing complete the life-safety picture, providing the function and duration evidence your fire risk assessment and responsible-person duties depend on.

For industrial clients, thermal imaging is the most useful preventative tool we offer. A thermographic survey of distribution equipment and machinery under load reveals developing faults, loose or corroded terminations, unbalanced phases, overloaded conductors, failing contactors, as heat, weeks or months before they become an outage. It is non-intrusive, requires no shutdown, and turns unplanned downtime into scheduled maintenance you control. On sites where a single hour of lost production costs more than the survey, it pays for itself the first time it finds something.
